What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a skin procedure involving a mechanical handpiece with a very fine needle cartridge that creates tiny holes in the top layer of your skin. This ‘controlled injury’ triggers your skin to repair and promote new collagen production. This is a fabulous treatment for wrinkled and sun damaged skin. It can also dramatically smooth the skin and improve acne scars and other abnormalities.
What Is The Procedure Like?
A numbing solution is applied to the surface of the skin to reduce discomfort. The needle pen is then applied to cleaned skin and skimmed over the surface to create tiny pin pricks. This is a mildly invasive procedure that creates fine droplets of blood from the controlled injury. Areas of scarring and wrinkles can be of focus to help make the skin smoother. The procedure takes about 30 minutes to perform.
What is Recovery Like?
After the Microneedling procedure is performed, the skin is cleaned and a growth factor serum is applied. Your skin will appear to look slightly ‘sunburned’ in the areas of treatment. This redness could last for a couple of days. You may also experience some slight peeling or flaking. A series of treatments is recommended for best results.
Reasons To Consider Microneedling
- Promotes collagen production
- Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
- Lifts, tightens and rejuvenates skin
- Improves the appearance of scars and textural concerns
