What Is Labiaplasty?

A woman may choose to undergo a labiaplasty for cosmetic reasons or to treat functional impairment. Many patients do not like when their inner labia (minora) hang beyond the borders of the outer labia (majora). Labiaplasty in Spokane is a surgical procedure done to improve the appearance of the vaginal area by removing a portion of the labia minora.

Not only does this procedure have immense physical benefits, but our patients also report improved psychological well-being as well as an overall improvement in quality of life. Let our caring team help you feel more confident in your body. From the initial consultation up until your final follow-up appointment, we are there for you every step of the way. What Can I Expect During My Labiaplasty Procedure?

Labiaplasty is an out-patient procedure performed at our Spokane office by Dr. Kai Morimoto. Labiaplasty is used to sculpt the labia, which is the skin and tissue surrounding the vaginal opening. In order to safely reduce the size of the labia minora, the tissue is removed in a vertical wedge which will result in a small, nearly invisible scar. Absorbable sutures are used to close the wound.

This surgical procedure is performed under conscious sedation and will take 90 minutes to perform.

Labiaplasty Recovery

Recovery from labiaplasty surgery typically involves about four to five days of rest with two to three weeks off from the gym or other physical activities. There may be significant post-surgery swelling due to the thin skin of the labia. This is normal and will decrease after about two weeks.

Dr. Morimoto will advise you to avoid tight-fitting clothing while you heal. Sexual intercourse and the use of tampons should be avoided for several weeks following the procedure to further facilitate an optimal recovery.

During your initial consultation with our medical team, we will provide you with more personalized guidance to help you achieve a successful procedure and recovery.

  • Pain or discomfort during intercourse or while wearing tight fitting clothing
  • Overly large, asymmetric labia minora which cause embarrassment with intimacy
  • Darkening of the labia minora, producing an aged and unattractive appearance
