What is Breast Reduction For Men?
The over development of breast size can affect men as well as women and can have a significant impact on a man’s self-esteem and confidence. This can be the result of:
- Hormonal changes
- Hereditary conditions
- Drug use (steroids, estrogen containing medications, marijuana and/or alcohol use)
- Medical problems (cancer, impaired liver function) or other reasons
What Is The Procedure Like?
There are various techniques available to treat gynecomastia and to find the best one for your situation it is best to discuss the treatments with a trained professional. When gynecomastia is the result of excess fatty tissue, Liposuction can be used. If there is excess skin or glandular tissue present, the areola will have to be reduced or the nipple repositioned through an excision technique.
Reasons To Consider Male Breast Reduction
- Prominent or enlarged breast size
- Inability to decrease breast size with diet and/or exercise
- Low self-esteem or insecurity because of breast appearance
What is Breast Reduction For Women?
Breast reduction surgery for women removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin to create a breast size in proportion with your body and to alleviate the discomfort associated with overly large breasts. In addition, the nipples are elevated up into a more youthful, perky position.

What Is The Procedure Like?
Breast reduction will remove excess fat and glandular tissue along with redundant skin. A drain is placed on both sides of the breasts and removed several days later in the office.
Dr. Morimoto will place a surgical bra over the area which is worn to minimize swelling. It should remain on for the first three weeks following surgery. Dr. Morimoto will provide post-operative instructions.
Reasons To Consider Breast Reduction
- Neck, back or shoulder pain
- Recurring rashes beneath or between the breasts
- Significant drooping of the breasts due to large size
- Painful shoulder grooving
- Limitations in activities due to weight and size of breasts
