What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a form of aggressive exfoliation performed with a chemical solution to remove the dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin. The goal of a chemical peel is to induce new skin cells to come to the surface of your skin and boost metabolism to promote smoother, glowing skin.

What is the Procedure Like?

Most chemical peels take about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the depth of the peel. The appointment starts with skin prep. Before applying the chemical solution, the aesthetician will first cleanse your skin, then a solution is applied to your skin using a tool like a brush or sponge. This solution contains an exfoliating acid, like glycolic or salicylic acid. You might feel a temporary slight burning or stinging sensation while the solution is processing on your skin. After leaving the solution on your skin for a specific amount of time, the solution is neutralized and sunscreen is applied.

What is Recovery Like?

Your skin may appear slightly pink and feel tight post treatment. The redness usually disappears by the time you leave your appointment. Your skin should remain very smooth and tight looking for a day or two, then start flaking or peeling. This peel process generally take 3 to 5 days depending on the intensity of the acid solution used.

Reasons to Consider a Chemical Peel

  • Brightens and evens skin tone
  • Helps reduce hyperpigmentation and brown spots
  • Helps to improve skin texture concerns and scarring
  • Brightens sun damaged skin
